Self-catering holiday cottage for up to 5 people with annexe for another 2.

£280 - £500

Hallin Bank is a 17th century farmhouse set in eleven acres of its own land at the end of a private road. It occupies a stunning position on the south slopes of Hallin Fell, looking down the terraced garden to the stream below, with magnificent views over the secluded valley of Martindale and towards Lake Ullswater. Access from Junction 40 of the M6 at Penrith, 12 miles away.

The same family has occupied Hallin Bank since 1905. In the present generation we keep the original house (whitewashed end) for our own use, but its east wing, ‘The Fold’, is available to rent as an independent cottage. In the pictures The Fold is the L-shaped section of the buildings in grey stone. It is a self-contained barn conversion, full of charm and furnished to a very high standard, providing a luxurious sequence of rooms for up to five visitors.

The Chalet, a one-room timber studio/summerhouse, higher up the hillside and with even lovelier views, can be rented as an annexe to The Fold and will sleep a further two people.

This is a beautiful place, perfect for a quiet country holiday. The accommodation is suitable either for a family, a group of friends, or a couple who like plenty of space. Wonderful wildlife, including red squirrels, red deer and golden eagles. Splendid walks in all directions.

The cottage is ideally located for those looking for a quieter base in which to explore the northern fells, with many walks and cycling tracks right on the doorstep, including lovely riverside walks and an old railway line providing a pleasant way to cycle or walk to Keswick. An overwhelmingly beautiful view and a peaceful village setting at Applethwaite – just over one mile from Keswick in the heart of the Lake District. Sleep 6 and 4 respectively.

£285 - £715

English Tourism Council 4 Stars.

Upper House and Lower House are at Applethwaite - an unspoilt, rural village nestling at the foot of Skiddaw just one mile from Keswick in the English Lake District. They both have an overwhelmingly beautiful view down to Derwentwater and the encircling Borrowdale fells. In Applethwaite red squirrels can still be seen. Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, where ospreys have nested in recent years, are only five minutes away. Keswick has easy access to other areas of the Lake District and there are many other lakes within a 30 minute drive.

Upper House and Lower House form a larger property called Lords Seat. As the names imply, Upper House is located over Lower House. They share a garden and each property has a private sitting area.

Upper House accommodates 6 people. It has a lounge/dining room, kitchen, cloakroom, shower room, bathroom (shower over bath), double bedroom and two twin bedrooms.

Lower House accommodates 4 people. It has a lounge/dining/kitchen area, cloakroom, bathroom (shower over bath), double bedroom and two single bedrooms (but additional single bed available to provide a twin bedroom).

Facilities at both include: travel cot, high chair, colour TV, video, DVD player, music system, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine/tumble drier, car parking. There are footpaths “from the door”. However the properties cannot accommodate pets and are non-smoking.

Please visit our website for full details of the accommodation and views for each property. It has an up to date availability calendar and many other photos.
