Come
and de-stress in Wordsworth’s favourite valley, in a landscape
little changed since his time. High Moss is an 18th century farmhouse
in the fields of Turner Hall Farm, below the Coniston Fells, beside
the ancient Walna Scar track. No. 2 is authentically furnished,
has many original features, an open fire and views from every window.

| The
Cottage |
The cottage sleeps 3–5 and is authentically and comfortably
furnished. It has two bedrooms, one with a king-size bed, one with
a single bed and a fold-away bed, (6ft x 2ft).
The
sitting room has an open fire, a television (with scart sockets),
radio/cassette player, plenty of books, children’s games,
and a pouffe / 6ft x 2ft mattress.
The
kitchen is spacious, well-equipped and has a dining table.
The
bathroom is downstairs, and the single bedroom has a washbasin.
Heating,
(no charge), is mostly by electric convector heaters with (optional)
24 hour time switches. There is a payphone, set at cost.
The
cottage has an enclosed garden and a garage - with a washer-drier
and barbecue. The water supply is private, - and wonderfully soft.
The
cottage is allergy friendly, hence our no smoking and no pets rule.
Only the sitting room has a fitted carpet: the bedrooms have washable
rugs. The mattresses have dust-mite proof covers, and the soft furnishings
and bedding are washed regularly. |
|
|
| The
Area |
| The
cottage is ideally situated for fell walking. Harter Fell, the
Old Man of Coniston and Grey Friar etc are within easy reach
without having to use a car. There is a good ridge walk from
Walna Scar south along the Dunnerdale Fells, which can be combined
with an excellent lunch at the Blacksmith’s Arms. There
are lots of books at the cottage giving details of these walks. |
|
 |
| 35
species of bird have been observed in the valley by our guests,
including green woodpeckers, twites, redstarts, ravens and
peregrine falcons. Fishing is possible at Hall Dunnerdale
& Ulpha, best in late summer.
On
lazy days you can curl up beside the open fire, (there are
books to suit all tastes and ages), or relax in bed and look
at the view down the valley . If you can prise yourselves
out, there are lots of interesting things to see and do in
the south and west of Cumbria. (See www.duddonvalley.co.uk)
Broughton-in-Furness at the foot of the valley is an attractive
and interesting small market town where you can buy local
produce and crafts, and eat out.
