English
Tourism Council 4 Stars
These
four high quality Award-winning cottages are set in a wonderful
location in the centre of the White Peak, surrounded by lovely dales
and hills in all directions, yet less than half a mile from the
pub in Biggin and one mile from the facilities in the highly popular
and much visited village of Hartington. |

|
| The
Cottages |
| We
have four holiday cottages, two for four person occupancy, one
for three person occupancy and one for two person occupancy.
Despite a consistent grading of the cottages by the English
Tourist Board as 4 Stars, the owners have constantly striven
to upgrade and improve their standards and facilities. All the
cottages have two colour TVs, Freeview Sky (one has the Sky
Sports Package), DVDs, videos, microwaves, radios, stone sinks
and hardwood units, and all other facilities appropriate to
a high quality conversion. The owners particularly pride
themselves on their standards of housekeeping. |

|
|
| Dale
View (sleeps 4) - so named because of the views of the surrounding
dales. This cottage has an upstairs lounge (featuring a substantial
old exposed beam seen on picture adjacent) and kitchen area
to take advantage of the views. The bedrooms and shower room
are on the ground floor. There are two means of entry and exit,
on the ground floor or up attractive external stone steps to
the living area. |
|

|
|
|
Liffs Cottage (also sleeping 4) - so named because of
the view of Liffs Hill two miles away. This cottage, again with
a partly exposed old beam has the more conventional layout of
lounge/kitchen on the ground floor and the two bedrooms and
a fully equipped bathroom and shower on the first floor. |
|
| The
Dairy - shown on the right on the photograph of the cottages,
is for two-person occupancy, but it is in fact of at least similar
size to the cottages mentioned above, and has often been described
by our guests as being a 'second honeymoon cottage'. |
| The
cottage has a decent sized galleried bedroom overlooking the
large open plan lounge (twenty feet by twenty feet), with
a log burner with stone surround as a focal feature in the
middle of the room. The floor of the lounge is polished
stone flags (with quality rugs in appropriate places), some
of the stone walls are exposed, as are the extensive wood
beams. The cottage also benefits from Sky TV.
The
kitchen / dining area is well equipped, and most of the crockery
is china. There is a large sized bathroom with Italian
floor tiles, containing five piece suite (separate shower
cubicle and bidet). |
|

|
|
| The
Milking Parlour - sleeps 3 - a new barn conversion,
all on the ground floor. This benefits from central heating,
a 'wet room' (smart shower room where shower area is separated
from the rest of the room by glass blocks, and therefore no
cubicle is needed) stone worktops in the kitchen area in addition
to the stone sinks and hardwood units, and much more. There
is one double bedroom and a good sized single bedroom. |

|
|
| The
Place |
| The cottages
are situated amongst gloriously rolling countryside with attractive views
down various dales. We are located between the highly popular village of
Hartington and its smaller, quieter neighbour, Biggin. (A large part of
the television series Peak Practice was filmed in Hartington (with a
smaller amount in Biggin) but traditionally the village has perhaps been
more highly regarded however for its famous cheese factory and shop, duck
pond and as a start for a number of walks of varying lengths).
|
| |
|
|
| Numerous footpaths and bridle ways
are on our doorstep and offer unrivalled walking in the best part of the
White Peak. The highly popular Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles,
is used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and is less than 1 mile
from us. Two further trails, the High Peak Trail and the Manifold Valley
Trail (both of similar distance), are within 3 miles. These three tracks
are ideal for family cycling as is the network of quiet minor roads
leading off at various places from the trails. |
|
 |
|
|
|
We have a small wood and just 12
acres of pasture land. On two of the fields our two horses and a few sheep
graze. A third field is for hay, and the fourth is a wild flower meadow
forming part of a larger nature reserve managed by English Nature. The
reserve runs through Biggin Dale and after one and a half miles it reaches
the famous River Dove near the meeting point of Beresford Dale and
Wolfscote Dale.
The walk down Wolfscote Dale beside
the River Dove eventually leads you to the most famous dale of the Peak,
Dovedale. The Dove
and Dovedale are renowned for their beauty. You will discover sheer
pinnacles of rock, lions heads, caves and more. The Dales offer interest
and lovely scenery in all seasons and are just as attractive on a crisp,
snow-covered winter's day as in summer sunshine. Each season reveals new
beauties and features. |
