Enjoy
England 4 Star Gold
These
four high quality 4 Star Gold cottages are set in a wonderful location
in the centre of the White Peak, surrounded by lovely dales and
hills in all directions, yet less than half a mile from the pub
in Biggin and one mile from the facilities in the highly popular
and much visited village of Hartington. |

Cottages |

We
have four holiday cottages, two for four person occupancy,
one for three person occupancy and one for two person occupancy.
Despite a consistent grading of the cottages by Enjoy England,
the official tourist body for England, as 4 Stars, the owners
have constantly striven to upgrade and improve their standards
and facilities and this is reflected in the grant of the newly
introduced ‘Gold Award’ by Enjoy England, for
‘exceptional quality and commitment to service.’
All
the cottages have DVDs, videos, microwaves, radios, stone
sinks and hardwood units, and all other facilities appropriate
to a high quality conversion. Each of the cottages have
two TVs, three have the full Sky and Film package and one
has Sky Plus
The
owners particularly pride themselves on their standards of
housekeeping. The owners are able to offer low cost cycle
hire and all cottages have the benefit of wi-fi reception. |

|
| Dale
View (sleeps 4) - so named because of the views of the surrounding
dales. This cottage has an upstairs lounge (featuring a substantial
old exposed beam seen on picture adjacent) and kitchen area
to take advantage of the views. The bedrooms and shower room
are on the ground floor. There are two means of entry and exit,
on the ground floor or up attractive external stone steps to
the living area. |
|

|
|
|
Liffs Cottage (also sleeping 4) - so named because of
the view of Liffs Hill two miles away. This cottage, again with
a partly exposed old beam has the more conventional layout of
lounge/kitchen on the ground floor and the two bedrooms and
a fully equipped bathroom and shower on the first floor. |
|
| The
Dairy - shown on the right on the photograph of the cottages,
is for two-person occupancy, but it is in fact of at least similar
size to the cottages mentioned above, and has often been described
by our guests as being a 'second honeymoon cottage'. |
| The
cottage has a decent sized galleried bedroom overlooking the
large open plan lounge (twenty feet by twenty feet), with
a log burner with stone surround as a focal feature in the
middle of the room. The floor of the lounge is polished
stone flags (with quality rugs in appropriate places), some
of the stone walls are exposed, as are the extensive wood
beams. The cottage also benefits from Sky Plus.
The
kitchen / dining area is well equipped, and most of the crockery
is china. There is a large sized bathroom with Italian
floor tiles, containing five piece suite (separate shower
cubicle and bidet). |
|

|
|
| The
Milking Parlour - sleeps 3 - a new barn conversion,
all on the ground floor. This benefits from central heating.
The shower room has underfloor heating and is spacious, as is
the shower cubicle. Stone worktops in the kitchen area in addition
to the stone sinks and hardwood units, and much more. There
is one double bedroom and a good sized single bedroom. |

| The
Place |
|
The
cottages are situated amongst gloriously rolling countryside
with attractive views down various dales. We are located between
the highly popular village of Hartington and its smaller,
quieter neighbour, Biggin.
Hartington
is one of the two honeypot villages of the village district,
being highly regarded for its market square, famous cheese
shop, duck pounds and as a start for a number of walks of
varying lengths in the vicinity of the River Dove. |
| |
|
|
| Numerous
footpaths and bridle ways are on our doorstep and offer unrivalled
walking in the best part of the White Peak. The highly popular
Tissington Trail, which runs for 17 miles, is used by walkers,
cyclists and horse riders, and is less than 1 mile from us.
Two further trails, the High Peak Trail and the Manifold Valley
Trail (both of similar distance), are within 3 miles. These
three tracks are ideal for family cycling as is the network
of quiet minor roads leading off at various places from the
trails. |
|
 |
|
|
|
We have a small wood and just 12
acres of pasture land. On two of the fields our two horses and a few sheep
graze. A third field is for hay, and the fourth is a wild flower meadow
forming part of a larger nature reserve managed by English Nature. The
reserve runs through Biggin Dale and after one and a half miles it reaches
the famous River Dove near the meeting point of Beresford Dale and
Wolfscote Dale.
The
walk down Wolfscote Dale beside the River Dove leads you after less
than 2 miles to the most famous dale of the Peak, Dovedale. The
Dove and Dovedale are renowned for their beauty. |
