The Turner family at The Royal Cottage, Mundesley

The Turner family at The Royal Cottage, Mundesley

In 2005, Rachel Turner stayed in Royal Cottage as a holiday maker in Mundesley on the North Norfolk Coast. On a return visit to the traditional seaside town, Rachel could not resist when she saw the brick flint property up for sale.

So, in 2006, teacher Rachel, husband Paul and their three children become the proud owners of their holiday let - one of four brick & flint terraced cottages built in the 1850s, situated alongside Mundesley Beck - only a short walk to the sandy beach & few minutes walk to Mundesley’s shops & amenities.

Although the family resides in Stowmarket – an hour and twenty minute drive up to Mundesley, they are more than happy to make the journey every Saturday to do the cleaning and maintenance chores needed to keep it in perfect order for their visitors.

“The children love it here,” explains Rachel, “After they have finished their jobs they play in the garden or go down to the beach”

“Mundesley is not at all commercial. The people here are really friendly and there is the gorgeous sandy beach. It’s an old fashioned place and it’s not too busy – that’s what we like.”

Rachel prefers an old fashioned touch with her welcome pack for visitors too. Despite her hectic schedule as a full-time teacher she always finds time to bake a cake and includes home made marmalade as well as Fairtrade chocolate treats. The family is eco-friendly and runs a website selling e-co/organics gifts, so it makes sense to kit the house out with “green” products such as organic linen and Fairtrade towels.

For lovers of heritage there’s a story behind this cottage with character. Named Royal after the Royal Hotel which dominates Mundesley, the cottage was built for the hotel domestic staff to live in – and provided fresh-baked bread every morning. The cottage has an old bread oven as a feature

Those days of Victorian servitude are long past but you can enjoy all the character of Mundesley with every modern comfort – including broadband wireless connection, dishwasher and LCD TV with Sky! Click here to find out more about Royal Cottage.
