Charming 16th Century Cottage next to famous 'Cathedral'. Sleeps 4.

£200 - £320

The present owners have run Fern Cottage successfully as a holiday cottage since 1988. It is situated in the shadow of the internationally famous 'Cathedral of the Marshes’, down a lane leading to Blythburgh Marshes, that was originally the old Yarmouth Road; From Cromwell’s soldiers to Charles Dickens on his way to Blundeston in Norfolk, all have past this magical setting that is Fern Cottage. Thought to have been built in the 16th century, some of the beams used in its construction were probably taken from redundant ships when Blythburgh ceased to be a flourishing inland port in the 18th Century.

A pretty enclosed garden with lawn, flowers beds and garden, table and chairs is accessed from the lane by a five bar and wicket gate where there is standing room for two cars. A kitchen with table and chairs, electric oven, microwave and fridge leads to a small hallway with a shower room and toilet leading off. The cosy lounge has an open fire, TV, video and DVD and has a wonderful atmosphere to relax in after a days walking the marshes and the River Blyth or enjoying the beaches of Southwold and Walberswick. Steep cottage stairs lead to a landing bedroom with double bed, which in turn leads to another bedroom with two singles. Three double duvets and pillows are provided but not linen. Pets are welcome and there are lots of walks in the immediate vicinity and a large enclosed field adjacent to the lane.

Beautiful home-from-home in peaceful and private location just a short walk from the beach in delightful Brancaster, sleeps 5.

£335 - £728

Brancaster is on the popular North Norfolk Coast and was originally a Roman Fortress built about 300AD as part of the coastal defences. The village is now a quiet little resort with a handsome church, a modern, well-stocked general store about a 2 minute walk along a pretty very narrow lane, and a village pub where children are welcome, and which offers good food. There are numerous high quality restaurants on your doorstep. There is a sailing school at Brancaster Staithe and the Royal West Norfolk Golf Course is at Brancaster. Burnham Market is about 3 miles away and has around 40 attractive shops.

Situated just a pleasant short walk from the beach, the cottage is at the end of a narrow lane with open farmland to the South and West. The lane is part of the North Norfolk Coastal path and all that you are liking to see passing the door are walkers, dogs and the occasional tractor. The house and garden are ideal for guests with children or dogs as the rear of the cottage is enclosed. There is a lovely light sitting room with open fire, dining area, kitchen, bathroom with bath and powerful shower, two double and one single bedrooms. The kitchen is equipped with double oven and hob, microwave, fridge and washing machine. Behind and to the side of the cottage is a lovely sheltered patio and private garden. The garden faces South and the patio West so provides a lovely afternoon and evening (in the Summer) sun trap. There is a garage and ample parking space for several cars. The house has central heating throughout. Please note that we accept either Monday or Friday changeovers, and Short Breaks are welcome.

Well furnished cottage with superb sea views, excellent coastal walks with shipwrecks and secluded coves, sleeps 5.

£400 - £1100

In a stunning location off the beaten track at the southern most tip of Devon, with just the sound of the sea, curlews and the odd sheep, this cottage is one of few former coastguard cottages fronted by National Trust land and located within an SSSI and Coastal Preservation Area. Approximately a mile away is the village of East Prawle, with two good pubs - one the famous Pig's Nose Inn serving home cooked food and regular live music. The sailing town of Salcombe is two miles by passenger ferry across the Salcombe estuary. Kingsbridge is approximately 9 miles away.

The cottage is warm, spacious and well equipped, with stripped wooden floorboards and cupboards, skylights and panoramic sea views from most rooms. Living room 1 is warm and cosy, with a log stove to unwind in front of after a good days walking, widescreen TV, DVD and leather sofas. With its own micro-hydro electricity, it has 3 reception rooms, fabulous kitchen with dishwasher etc., bathroom, shower-room, separate wc and 4 twin/double bedrooms; the second sitting room can be used as a further double bedroom if required.

Glenuaig Lodge is surrounded by Munros and Corbetts for the hill walkers, a six mile gentle valley for the less energetic, wildlife for the naturalists, and there is a Site of Special Scientific Interest to the South. The drive or gentle walk in has fabulous views across the Torridon Mountains. The Estate is about forty minutes from the West Coast and in an ideal central position for exploring the Highlands and tourist spots to all four sides. One well-behaved dog may be welcome by prior agreement.

Here you will also find a large dining room table which seats 14 with two long pews from the chapel and four dining chairs; sofas around a log burning stove provide a relaxed seating area. On the ground floor are 3 bedrooms (1 with en-suite and King size bed) two twins, a shower room, and main bathroom with infrared 6-person sauna. The outbuildings have been rebuilt to adjoin the chapel and create a very special area with a Scandinavian feel. The hot tub is a traditional cedar wood barrel design heated by electricity to seat 4 or 6 people. The lavvo is a Scandinavian indoor grill based on the Laps lavvo tents where they cooked and slept. The pine seats are covered with reindeer skins - it's great fun and very social.
