La Place is a tiny hamlet fifteen minutes by car from Cluny. Its commanding position provides extensive views over the valley of the river Grosne, across pastureland, rolling hills and woodland towards Mount St Cyr in the distance - a truly rural setting and a most attractive one. La Place I and II are two of three houses in the hamlet, each standing in its own grounds and entirely independent of the others. In origin they were winegrower's houses, their large cellars and outbuildings designed for the making and storing of wine. Their character has been preserved even though they have been extensively modernised. There are white walls, massive oak or chestnut beams and pine parquets flooring. Both offer ample space outside for eating or sunbathing.
La Place I is approached up a short flight of steps to the open gallery, which leads directly into the living room with its large stone fireplace, wood-burning stove and traditional Burgundian armoire. To the right is a bedroom with double bed. To the left is the kitchen and two terraces - one overlooking the courtyard facing east, ideal for taking breakfast in the early morning sun, the other facing south with access to the garden. The second floor has two bedrooms - one double and one twin, together with bathroom with shower, bath, WC and washbasin; there is a second WC with washbasin at the end of the covered terrace.
La Place II is approached up a short flight of steps to the south facing open gallery, leading directly into a large farmhouse kitchen with dresser, wood-burning stove and views over the valley to the north and east. The kitchen leads into a spacious lounge constructed out of what was once the barn, with views to the north and south. Stairs lead down to a double bedroom, with bathroom adjacent and a French window giving on to a south facing terrace. The stairs also lead up to two attic bedrooms - one twin and one with small double bed. | |
