Located on the sunny Charente Dordogne border, Chateau de Gurat is an ideal child-friendly holiday destination for those wanting to experience rural France at its best. The chateau is situated on the edge of the tranquil little village of Gurat (population 187 with 10th Century Gallo-Roman church, post office, 2 bars and petrol station). The village of Gurat lies between Villebois-Lavalette (with magnificent hilltop fortified Chateau) and Aubeterre-sur-Dronne - officially one of "les plus beaux villages de France", the most beautiful villages of France. Situated in the beautiful countryside of the Charente Dordogne region, we offer a year round base for discovering Southwest France, and can provide assistance with house hunting.
The five luxury gites are set in the grounds of the picturesque chateau, which dates back to the 15th Century and stands in 14 acres of meadows and woodland. Each has been carefully renovated to provide comfortable family accommodation whilst maintaining a sense of rural France, with original oak beams & stonework. The gites vary in size from two to four bedrooms, each equipped with a modern kitchen with its own washing machine, and each having its own sun terrace and barbecue. When you arrive, you will find your beds made-up with luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding and a welcome hamper to greet you.
As most of our summer bookings are family groups we firmly believe that "happy kids = happy parents". We pride ourselves that we have created a safe environment where kids can mingle, explore and play. All the grounds are a big play area for the children with wooden climbing frame, swings and a huge sand pit. Table tennis, boules, giant Connect4 & Jenga, archery and a 5-a-side football pitch are just some of the fun to be had. There are mountain bikes for hire.
The 12 by 6 metre swimming pool enjoys panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, and there is also a separate 4 by 3 metre children's pool. | |
