La Vieille Longere is a charmingly updated ancient stone longhouse packed with character. This lovely gite combines original features with well fitted holiday rental accommodation that is ideal for couples, groups of adult friends or older families (minimum age 11).

There is a galley kitchen with a sunny window seat. It is comprehensively equipped for self-catering, and a separate dual aspect living room with comfy sofas, dining suite, TV and wood burner. French doors open onto a large terrace with open paddock beyond - the views from here are wonderful. Watch the bird life (including green and spotted woodpeckers, common and honey buzzards, kestrels, wood pigeons), or sketch the scenery. It is a great spot to relax with a drink and watch the sun go down over the forest then star gaze at clear skies; there is a built-in barbecue and plenty of outdoor dining furniture on the patio, plus a couple of sun loungers are provided.

On the first floor on opposite sides of the galleried landing there are two good sized bedroom suites; one has twin single beds, the other has a double bed, both have wardrobes, chests of drawers, mirrors, chairs and an ensuite shower room.

Our prices are based on 4 guests using these 2 bedroom suites, however for larger groups for a small supplement there is also the option of a light and airy ground floor double bedroom with plenty of storage space, french doors to the rear terrace and a small adjacent shower room. Alternatively we offer a discount to couples choosing to use only the downstairs accommodation.

This character vacation rental is set in spacious grounds next door to the English owners home in France; if requested, we are more than happy to help guests make the most of their holiday by providing suggestions for places to eat, things to do and attractions to visit, whilst respecting our visitors private space and ensuring we do not impose on their enjoyment of the property.

Reviews of LA VIEILLE LONGERE

"What a find, we both really needed a break from the rat race and we found it here, do as much or a little as you want, restaurants, walks, cycling, site seeing, or just relaxing with a book and a bottle of the local cider looking at the fab views and listening to the local wildlife. Penny and Ray were really great, including local knowledge and recommendations for us. thanks once again."

"Our holiday at La Fontaine Rouillee was most enjoyable, we found the accommodation to be set in idyllic settings surrounded by beautiful countryside, it offered many splendid walks that could be explored within its immediate vicinity, the beauty of the countryside was absorbing and we very quickly found ourselves being swallowed up by its exquiteness.

It’s hard to express the peacefulness that one can experience when staying at this accommodation, whether choosing to explore the area by foot or cycles or even just sitting in the splendid gardens surrounding the property with a glass of wine, you immediately realize you are so far away from the hustle and pace of life that one is faced with back in the UK.

We found many leaflets & literature on areas to visit and choices of local quality restaurants, the owners also had a wealth of information / knowledge on places to see and were glad to share this information when asked, however, at no point during our stay did we find them to be intrusive or invading our space, available if required, courteous when spoken to and made us most welcome from the moment we arrived and throughout the course of our holiday.

The accommodation was of a very high standard and more importantly, a high level of cleanliness internally and externally, it was so quiet, if we had three cars travel pass the property in a day we jokingly classed that as the rush hour, the surrounding noises were of wildlife namely birds or cattle from a nearby farm, the odd passer- by would acknowledge us with a courteous “Bonjour” and a nod of his head, everybody seemed to go out of their way to make our visit to the area an enjoyable one & one that would no doubt etch fond memories for a very long time.

To enjoy the beauty of the surrounding areas, a car is required, many more beautiful towns can be explored without travelling too far, again, our hosts with their wealth of knowledge seemed exceptionally good at being able to predict the type of towns that we would most enjoy and typically French ports with their many splendid fish restaurants and their outstanding views."

"These are ideal gites for walkers or cyclists. Starting from Fontaine Rouillee there is a delightful walk along country lanes, beside a river and amongst fields and woods - with virtually no cars and the few natives are very friendly! A little further afield there is access to a disused railway path; in late April 2009 a 2km stretch yielded 27 different varieties of wild flowers in bloom including orchids. 15km away the towpath for the Nantes-Brest canal winds through extremely pleasant countryside. The accommodation is immaculate and very comfortable, with pleasant outdoor facilities excellently arranged for enjoying a tranquil barbecue and bottle of the local cider - disturbed only by birdsong."

David & Jane - Apr 09

"Thanks for the welcome pack of goodies to start a fantastic week in Brittany. Longere great, weather great, France great. An even better than expected holiday, accommodation and hosts were super. Hope to see you again next year."

Lucy, Alan, Mark & Max - Aug 08

"Beautiful surroundings, lovely weather perfect for barbecues and the gite has been very comfortable. Our visits to Dinan, Josselin and Fort la Latte and the beaches were great days out and we found several nice restaurants. We have especially enjoyed our stay as there are so many walking and cycle routes near to the longere and a great mini-golf course a short drive away."
