VB 4 star

This fascinating old building has now been upgraded to provide centrally heated high quality and spacious accommodation for up to eight people – with breathtaking views of Wasdale.

The house features two wood burning stoves, a well equipped kitchen with fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, wall set double oven / grill, hob and microwave, separate dining room with original sandstone salting trough and a comfortable light living room with TV, DVD player and CD radio. There are four large en-suite bedrooms, two with kingsize beds, two with zip'n link beds which can be either 2 full size singles or one super kingsize (cot can be provided). The garden has a large table and chairs and a barbecue is available, guests also have access to 8 acres of woods and meadow leading down to the river Irt. Pets by arrangement.

A 15 minute walk down the road leads to the open fell towards Wastwater screes and the Scafell range. For the less energetic the area also abounds with low level walks through open countryside and woodland, alongside rivers and lakes and with a liberal sprinkling of country pubs.

There is plenty of choice of other activities in the area including fishing, riding, golf, bird watching, mountain biking and swimming and we’re close to the coast so ing your bucket and spade.

The areas other attractions include the ancient Roman fort on Hardknot Pass; the miniature steam railway which runs up the beautiful valley of Eskdale and Muncaster Castle and owl sanctuary.

Apart from the local pub (300m) which serves a good range of bar and restaurant meals (and is children and dog friendly) there is a café and craft shop in Santon Bridge, and in the village of Gosforth 3 miles away there are shops, restaurants, home bakery and a bank.

"Beautiful farmhouse in a brilliant location with amazing views situated in an unspoilt part of Cumbria but an easy drive to the tourist attractions. The welcome and information received on arrival was superb. Given the freedom of the farm, it felt like we had our own slice of the Lake District. Dog made very welcome and loved it too."

"A fabulous farmhouse, cosy and very comfortable. Good location for the fells and a good place to 'get away from it all'. The children thoroughly enjoyed playing in the grounds - they think the farmhouse is 'cool' and mark it as 10 out of 10. Thank you"
