Nettleslack Cottage, Martindale Near Ullswater, Lake District, England

  A delightful cottage, full of character, well-equipped, peaceful, with good access to the north-eastern fells.

"Nettleslack Cottage retains its historic character and is beautifully restored and maintained, and always spotlessly clean (we have visited four times), providing every facility for a comfortable and peaceful stay. Complete privacy from the owners' neighbouring house, but Monica and Nic are always available if needed, and ready to give advice on walks and wildlife and to supplement the excellent and comprehensive folder on how everything works. For the walker, there are at least seven Wainwrights within an easy day's walk from the cottage (and more for the younger and fitter!), as well as some lovely lower level rambles. Light the wood-burning stove in the evening, enjoy a meal cooked in the well-equipped kitchen (or visit the local pub - ten minutes' drive), then lie in bed and watch Orion track across the skylight. "

  Cosy Retreat

"Just returned from a weeks stay in Nettleslack Cottage. We were warmly welcomed by the owners Monica and Nic who did everything they could to make our stay a pleasant one. The photographs we had viewed before booking were accurate and the cottage was very clean. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed, there was an endless supply of hot water and although we only needed to use it on one occasion, the wood burner was extremely efficient. We found a collection of board games, jigsaw puzzles and a variety of books which I thought was a really nice touch.
Martindale and the surrounding area is very beautiful, there are many walks to suit all abilities directly from the cottage.
I suppose the bottom line is, would we stay at Nettleslack Cottage again. The answer to that is a very definate yes! "

  Property was ideal, no TV brilliant, away from everything

"Cottage was clean, service provided by owners was very friendly. Valley very quiet. People we met were lovely and friendly. Wildlife was beyond our wildest dreams. Red Deer in field directly behind cottage, red squirrels in garden, lots of different birds. What more could you expect. "

The owners are friendly and helpful, the cottage is comfortable and cosy, really welcoming to return to after great walks straight from the doorstep,there is no need to use the car. "What a find. The peace, tranquility and beauty of this place far exceeds expectation. We were blessed with a heatwave, but any weather would not have spoilt our stay.
