MIll Cottage
nestles on the banks of the River Isbourne amongst peaceful and
tranquil surroundings. Reached by a private road, it is set
in grounds of about 5 acres and is situated about 1 mile from the
centre of the historic market town of Evesham. About 150
years old, the cottage was once the residence of the Miller of the
nearby water mill. It is fully equipped, including open log
fire in the lounge and garden furniture / barbecue for guests to
enjoy the countryside setting. The
adjacent Hampton Mill is also available as a long-term let,
details of which can be found at http://www.hamptonmill.fsnet.co.uk

| The Place |
The historic
market town of Evesham is tucked into the loop of the River Avon
and was founded in about AD700. There was once a large Abbey
but this was dissolved in about 1540. The site of the
Battle of Evesham is only 2 miles away. It was during this
battle that Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, democrat and
reformer of Parliament was slain. A magnificent collection
of historical artefacts is on display at the Almonry Heritage
Centre nearby.
There are plenty of good
restaurants and pubs in the town itself, as well as in the
surrounding villages. Some serve the famous Evesham
Asparagus Supper of fresh asparagus, new potatoes, crispy fried
bacon, peas and butter sauce, followed by strawberries and cream
and scrumpy cider.
The River Isbourne is graded
1B by the NRA, and interestingly it is reputed to be the only
river in England to run south to north! Fishing however is
not allowed, as the whole valley is designated a Special Wildlife
Site by the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust. Over 70 species of
birds have been recorded here over the years, including
Kingfishers, Herons, Dabchicks, Woodpeckers and Warblers. A
pair of Mute Swans nest on an island near to the adjacent mill and
rear their cygnets on the mill pool in front of the cottage.
Public footpaths allow you
to walk from the cottage to Bredon Hill or along the banks of the
Avon to Hampton Ferry and then to the markets, shops and meadows
of Evesham.
