Only 1.5 hours from Calais, this self-contained wing of a late 18th Century farmhouse is situated 3km from the market town of Gamaches with its 14th Century church and Saturday market. The charming seaside towns of Le Treport and Mers-les-Bains with their wonderful seafood restaurants are about half an hour's drive. A little farther is Le Crotoy with its sandy beaches.

The Gite
With a large outdoor pool and gardens, very efficient central heating, log fire and indoor games room, the cottage is ideal for year-round use. In detail, the accommodation comprises:-
     
Ground floor    
• Kitchen/dining room. The kitchen is fully-equipped with fridge/freezer, cooker, dishwasher, washing machine, oven, microwave, breadmaker, steamer, handblender and mixer.
• Large double bedroom with sitting area, king-size bed and single bed.
• Double bedroom.
• Bathroom with full sized bath, shower over bath, WC, and basin
• Utility room with dishwasher, washing machine and 2nd sink
All rooms have splendid views.

Things To Do

During your stay, the owners, who live adjacent, will be happy to organise French tuition, Cycling, Horse riding, barbecue, table d'hote, as well as wine and champagne tastings.

There is a wealth of other things to do both in the immediate area or within a short drive, including swimming, Theme parks, Gourmet dining, Golf, Tennis, Walking, Sightseeing and Fishing.

Specific places or activities of interest include:-

  • Marquenterre, a bird sanctuary of 2000 ha. in the Somme estuary.
  • Le Crotoy, Cayeux, St Valery where William the Conqueror left for England.
  • Mers-les-Bains and Le Treport, charming turn-of-the-century seaside resorts. Pebble beaches and white cliffs. Le Treport has many good fish restaurants as well as a great fish market.
  • The chateaux of Eu, a palace, and Rambures, a fortified castle, as well as lots of charming smaller castles in the area.
  • Farther north, the seaside resort of Le Touquet, with golf and a water-resort, Bagatelle.
  • To the east, with an early start, Disneyland Paris can be visited (2hrs 20 mins), or the Asterix Park (1hr 50mins).
  • To the south, past Rouen, lies Giverny, and Monet's garden.
  • It is easy to take the train from Abbeville (1hr 45 train journey) or Amiens 45 mins, to Paris for the day. Or drive to Paris and park in the outskirts, St Denis for example (a 2hr drive), and take the metro into central Paris.
  • There are wonderful beech woods to walk in, particularly the forest of Eu.
  • There is lots of fishing and fishing events in the area.
  • Many cycle routes exist including one directly to the coast, one around the lakes and many through the forest.
  • There are several horse-riding schools for all ages and abilities.
  • There is a man-made lake (base nautique) just outside Gamaches with water activities; canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing, windsurfing etc.
  • Friday market at the picturesque royal town of Eu and markets on Sunday morning in the towns of Blangy sur Bresle or Saint Valéry (on the coast).

The Location

Less than an hour away from Amiens, Rouen and Dieppe.

Paris is 2 hours away by train from Abbeville, with Disneyland Paris a little farther and Parc Asterix a little nearer.
