Low
cost ski flights are a lot easier to come by than they used
to be, with the traditional airlines such as British Airways,
Air France, British Midland and SwissAir now competing with
low cost airlines such as Easyjet, Ryanair and Flybe, as well
as British Midland's own low-cost airline BMIBaby. New operators
such as SnowJet flying into Chambery airport further increase
the flight options available. Searching for low cost flights
has been made even easier with the arrival of sites like Wegolo
which enable you to search all the low cost airlines simultaneously,
including using different airlines for different legs of your
journey!
The
key to getting a discount ski flight is to book early - in fact
as soon as the airlines release their schedules for the period
you want to travel! This does vary by airline, and does not
always coincide with when the low-cost carriers in particular
say that they are going to release their fares!
Which
ski airport you fly to will be a matter of balancing convenience
with price and flexibility - Geneva airport for example has
the greatest range of flights from the UK, therefore the greatest
opportunity for discounted flights, but at 2.5-3 hours away
from the southern French ski resorts, maybe not the best airport
for resorts of the Three Valleys, Tignes, Val d'Isere etc, and
certainly not for Les 2 Alpes or Alpe d'Huez!!
