Squirrel
cottage is an excellent base for those who enjoy activity
based holidays such as walking or cycling (various maps
and guide books available on the bookshelf). It has immediate
access to a network of small country lanes and a myriad
of footpaths which extend across large parts of east Suffolk.
A
2 minute walk away from the cottage, at the end of the lane
is several hectares of land which the RSPB purchased in
2008. They are currently in the process of returning the
land to its natural state of marsh/wetland. Since this time
there has been an increase in Marsh harriers, Bitterns and
Barn Owls in the area. The views are beautiful and will
be stunning once the land is flooded.
The
area contains some of the county’s highly rated pubs
and restaurants most of which are reasonably priced. There
are 3 good pub/restaurants in the village all within walking
distance from the cottage..
The
cottage is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
There are all local amenities plus a fabulous range of shops
at the famous Snape Maltings. A wide variety
of local produce can be found at the local farmers market
and the farm shop.
A short drive away is Tunstall and Rendlesham
Forests which contain Fallow and Roe Deer and a
wide variety of beautiful birds. Some of the county’s
best loved seaside resorts are on the doorstep such as Aldeburgh,
Thorpeness, Southwold,
Walberswick and Dunwich.
Those visitors wishing to explore local history can visit
Sutton Hoo - the famous burial ship site,
Framlingham and Orford Castles.
Snape Maltings Concert Hall provides a
focus for a wide range of cultural activity such as Opera,
classical concerts, dance, poetry as well as Jazz and modern
music. The concert hall is within easy walking distance
from the cottage. Aldeburgh is just a ten
minute drive away and has its own cultural festivities as
well as a cinema. Enjoy…….
