This typical old Alpine chalet/farmhouse, dating from 1847, has been beautifully restored to include modern amenities, whilst keeping its original character intact. It is situated at a height of 800 metres in a tranquil and charming Alpine hamlet midway between Morzine and Thonon-les-Bains. The house is spacious, comfortable and airy, with panoramic views from its windows to Mount Hermone and as far as the Swiss Jura.

Alpine Chalet Accommodation

The living area is on three floors - the most important room being the large lounge/kitchen on the second floor created out of what was once the barn. The original beams are still in place, together with pine-parquet flooring, wooden ceilings and white walls.

The room is heated by a cosy wood-burning stove around which easy chairs nestle.

The kitchen and eating facilities are conveniently grouped in one corner of the room, and a French window opens onto a balcony-terrace for meals outside and sunbathing.

   

The five bedrooms, distributed on various floors, consist of three doubles, a twin and a single. The bathroom contains a bath, shower, washbasin and WC.

Outside is a small patio/garden, and there is parking next to the house.

The Area

The house is situated at the junction of the Morzine, Abondance and Hermone valleys and makes an excellent base for excursions into them. Each contains spectacular mountain scenery and trails for walking. A variant of the hikers footpath GR5, 'Balcony of Leman', passes through the hamlet itself.

The house is fifteen minutes from Thonon-les-Bains an agreeable town overlooking Lake Geneva and twenty minutes from the smart well-equipped spa of Evian. From there it is possible to take the paddle-steamer across the lake to Lausanne in Switzerland. Meanwhile Geneva with its 'jet d'eau', fine museums and international organisations is an hour away by car. Also on the lake is Yvoire, a delightful medieval village/fishing port surrounded by ramparts and guarded by a 14th century castle containing a garden of the five senses.

In addition to walking and sightseeing, summer holidays in the Alps offer a wealth of other outdoor pursuits. There are swimming pools at Morzine, Chatel, Thonon and Evian. It is also possible to swim from numerous beaches on Lake Geneva. Lake Montriond provides safe swimming for young children and there is a lake with excellent swimming at Le Beunaz near Bernex. White water sports, rafting and canoeing are available on the river Dranse. Tennis is available at Abondance and Morzine.
