Delightful 16th Century Grade II listed cottage set in the heart of the medieval town of Rye, sleeps 4.

£245 - £545

Oakhurst Cottage is a delightful 16th Century Grade II listed cottage set in the heart of the medieval town of Rye, and is believed to be the original servants quarters for the Manor House next door. The cottage boasts a wealth of original features such as the magnificent 'Inglenook Fireplace' with original bread oven, and many original doors and beams. However, sympathetic restoration has meant the fitting of many modern amenities including gas central heating, fitted galley kitchen and a jacuzzi-style air bath.

We have taken great care to provide a lounge which combines the natural charm of the old world with comfortable modern seating, including a 2-seater sofa and 2 armchairs, a dining table with 4 wrought iron chairs and luxurious Malabar curtains and cushions. We also provide a TV, a radio/CD player and a selection of books and games for your enjoyment. The galley kitchen is fitted with an electric cooker, microwave, fridge, iron and ironing board and has a door leading to a pretty courtyard garden with table and chairs. The cottage can sleep 4 people in two bedrooms as follows - a first floor double bedroom up a set of steep stairs and a twin bedroom reached via a further set of steep stairs.

Rye itself is one of the Cinque ports and grew from a small fishing community to a major trading port in the 13thC. It was almost completely devastated by fire in the 14thC but 3 years later a town wall was built to protect Rye, of which a small section still remains in Cinque Port Street together with Landgate and Ypres Tower. In 18thC Rye became known for its smuggling and the famous 'Hawkhurst Gang'. Rye is no longer by the sea but Camber Sands and Winchelsea beach are within a short drive and there is an indoor swimming pool close to the cottage in Rope Walk. There are many historical attractions in the area such as Battle Abbey, Bodiam Castle, Leeds Castle, Scotney Castle and Dover Castle as well as many local walks. Rye itself is a charming town with quaint cobbled streets and many beautiful medieval buildings and has a large range of bookshops, antique shops and galleries, together with many local amenities and restaurants.

Delightful 16C timber framed cottage nestling at the foot of the rolling South Downs - a magical and romantic hideaway, updated in a contemporary way but truly with the 'wow' factor. Sleeping 4 in two double beds plus one.

£300 - £550

Well equipped kitchen, downstairs bathroom with good shower, lounge with open fire. Dining room. All decorated in contemporary style. Lovely terrace with garden furniture and parasol. Well tended garden with views and seating.

In ‘An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’, Kingston is a small, pretty village, very well located for Gatwick (20 mins), London Victoria (50 mins by train), yet 3 miles from the increasingly popular and happening Brighton. On a summer evening walk to the The Juggs pub which is 200m walk away.

A wonderful area for activities, Sussex is great for children – everything from Pooh Bridge (20 mins), the beach (10 mins), farm parks, the list is endless. Walk out of the front door directly onto the ‘South Downs Way’, cycle or just sit and gaze at the great views. A lovely tranquil place with time to reflect and think.

A place of culture too, Glyndebourne Opera House is only 10 minutes away through Bohemian Lewes – a lively and chic county town, increasingly poplar with the ‘getting away from London’ set.

Superbly renovated – this is a lovely hideaway, warm, cosy and luxurious.
