Living Accommodation

Nestled between the Yorkshire Wolds, the Vale of York and the Howardian Hills, Woodhouse Farm has a beautiful, peaceful countryside location with stunning views of the surrounding area. Next door is Howsham Wood, which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and part of the Howardian Hills AONB. The wood is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna including bluebells and primroses in the spring, and a growing community of deer. Our central location means we are an ideal base for exploring North Yorkshire, close to York (only 20 minutes drive away), and many other attractions including Castle Howard, Flamingoland, and the North Yorkshire Moors.

Apple Tree Cottage has been sympathetically converted and restored to a very high standard; all the stone, bricks, roof tiles and exposed beams and trusses used came from the original building itself to preserve the character of the cottage. The living area is open plan to the ceiling showing the original roof trusses and beams. The kitchen is fully fitted with all modern conveniences including dishwasher, oven, fridge, microwave and washing machine (tumble drying facilities available), and reclaimed quarry tiled floor. The living/dining area is fully carpeted and centrally heated and has a small real flame electric stove. There is digital TV, video, DVD, books and games. There are 2 bedrooms, a downstairs double, and a twin room upstairs, which is galleried over the living area. The bathroom is downstairs, with both bath and shower facilities. The sofa converts into a large double bed, giving comfortable accommodation for up to 6 people. Outside is an enclosed patio area to the rear, with outdoor furniture, barbeque and outdoor drying facilities. The front garden has a lawn, and both sides have wonderful views of the Yorkshire Wolds and our farm. Children welcome, cot and high chair available.

Here at Woodhouse Farm we are ideally situated for a whole range of visitor attractions, too numerous to mention. Being just a couple of miles away from the A64 Leeds to Scarborough road, we are central for many locations including York, Scarborough and the East Coast, Pickering, North Yorkshire Moors, Thirsk, Harrogate and many more.

Castle Howard, the setting for Brideshead Revisited, is just the other side of the A64, literally 5 minutes away. Terrington Lavender Farm, Helmsley and Duncombe Park are a little further. Pickering and its steam railway links to the North Yorkshire Moors (Heartbeat Country) are a stones throw away and Whitby is accessed by a most scenic drive.

York is a major visitor attraction, with the Minster and cobbled streets, and newer additions like the Yorvik and Castle museum and National Railway Museum. The Museum gardens are a perfect place for an al-fresco lunch. See the peacocks and squirrels as you sit and watch the river flow by. The newly refurbished racecourse is within easy reach if you fancy a flutter.

Thirsk is a little further a-field (1 hrs drive) with the racecourse and Herriott museum dedicated to the real life James Herriott.

For visitors wanting thrills and adventure then Flamingoland is the place to see. Full of rides and slides for those wanting the scream factor, there is also the fabulous zoo, with many rare breeds on view.

The Deep the worlds first submarium at Hull is also just over a hours drive away. Why not drop in to Beverley on the way and visit the lovely historical market town with its Minster.
