Southwood provides all the comfort and facilities for a relaxing holiday whether you are looking for an action packed stay or a retreat from the busy world. The gardens are private and fully enclosed, mostly by Devon banks. It is an ideal place from which to explore beaches, moors and the many local attractions and a wonderful place to sit and relax in the quiet country air, with lovely views over beautiful Devon countryside.
A half mile away down the lane is the Tarka Trail, a gentle 180 mile long countryside walk and cycle path. With plenty of private parking, bicycle and boot storage, internet grocery deliveries, chef cooked ready meals, chef catering, pampering, beauty and holistic treatments and ceramic socials all on hand you can tailor your holiday to your specific interests.
Southwood is child friendly and at the same time very well suited to older families and groups of friends.Southwood has remarkable gardens, not that they are fancy, but they have a very special feel to them. The house itself sits close on the little Devon lane, but the gardens behind and beside the house are private and big enough to give you special places. Inside Southwood there are lots of rooms and lots of space, with plenty of bathrooms and 3 different sitting areas, there's also good options for privacy within the house.
Southwood has all its bathrooms and 3 of its bedrooms on the ground floor. En-suite bathroom to bedroom 2 with shower, bath, wc. En-suite to bedroom 1 with shower, wc. Family bathroom. Family wc. Shower and wc off the sun room. The showers are generally able to take a chair. Wheelchair users have for many years been comfortable staying at Southwood.
The kitchen is extremely well equipped with a 5 element Range cooker with 2 ovens and grill, large fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, second larder fridge, toasters etc. pine kitchen table.

There are two sitting rooms. The downstairs sitting room has TV, video and dvd. The upstairs sitting room has TV and dvd. There is also sitting area in the large sun room dining room. The dining table can seat up to 11 people.
Southwood has night storage heating in the main rooms with in bathrooms fan heaters, heated towel rails and in main bathroom under floor heating. There is a log burning stove in the dining & sitting sun room. Guests have use of the outdoor heated summer swimming pool and other facilities at Torridge House including meeting and helping feed the animals.

Five Lane End is part just a half mile or so from the tiny village of Little Torrington. It is a pretty part of rural North Devon with hedges lining lanes winding between fields.
This is War Horse Country and the home of Tarka the Otter.
Southwood is well placed for the Tarka Trail, a gentle 180 mile long countryside walk and cycle path, it is a half mile away down the lane or a minute or so by car to an easier access.
Also for the historic town of Great Torrington, fishing villages, sandy beaches, and for fantastic coasts to explore as well as moors, market towns and attractions of all sorts.
RHS Rosemoor Gardens is a mile away, Dartington Crystal, 2 miles and a good choice of a wide variety excellent gardens and family attractions are within easy reach.
There are a number of pubs offering food in Torrington including the Black Horse (good pub food) and the Torridge Inn, pub and Thai diner (great food). Good take-aways as well. Some deliver. The pubs and Take-aways are not (easily) reached on foot.
A great variety of eating out options in the surrounding area and Bideford, a number catering for special diet options.
Chef Anne is amazing and cooks for 4 or more in your cottage, both served and cleared meals, chilled full meals, and chilled meals and puddings to order. Her frozen individual servings are available from the freezer at Torridge House.
There are plenty of golf courses in the area, the nearest is at Great Torrington 2 miles away. The famous Westwood Ho! course is 25 minutes away.
Outdoor pursuits centres are within easy reach.
In Little Torrington itself is Tarka Pottery which offers a variety of clay work and pottery painting experiences.
A very friendly family run initiative.
Marina's wonderful massages and holistic treatments, highly recommended over many years, are based at the studio in her farmhouse. She also provides home/cottage treatments as well.
There are plenty of opportunities for fishing, both sea and freshwater. Coarse, trout farms and game fishing on the River Torridge.

Prices range from £732 to £1623, are inclusive of electricity, logs, bed linen, towels, wifi and use of the outdoor summer season swimming pool a short mile away at Torridge House Cottages in Little Torrington.
Short stays are available in term times and at short notice. The minimum stay is 4 nights and is charged at 75% of the week's price.
One well behaved older dog can be accepted by arrangement where owners appreciate that because the gardens are surrounded by farmland, it is not possible to let a dog roam the gardens unattended.
